TTU Homecoming Parade
TTU Homecoming Parade
I have checked into the TTU homecoming parade and the deadline is September 14th. I wanted to see if we would be interested in participating. I am including a link to the application so we can see what we would need to do. It appears they prefer a float, but I will have to check further to see if we could just walk in costume. Please let me know what you guys think.

More Information
I was able to speak with a member of the homecoming committee and we DO NOT have to have a float. She said to include details of what we will be wearing, doing, carrying and have copies of flyers we wish to distribute if they are available. If it is okay with everyone, I will go ahead and start filling out the application. She said we would be able to do some fighting as we go along and we can hand out flyers advertising when we meet, etc. If you have any recommendations. please let me know.

When Hobbs did the Parades we got a 2nd place in Best float or something like that and all we did was Use refrigerator boxes and paint bricks so it lookd like Castle walls and we had the Girls that didn't want to walk (blanket bunnies) inside the float and the rest of us guys would alternate in and out of the float Fighting behind around and stuff handing out candy and Flyers and Stuff.. HAving a float so you can take a break is a good idea just so your not walking a whole 5miles or however long your parade is..
That is a good point Monkey, and I am not saying we should not have a float, just that it isn't required. I agree wholeheartedly that having a place to rest is a good idea. Do we have any ideas for the float? The theme of the parade is Texas Tech a passport to the world. I thought we should have people dress in garb from different cultures, i.e. Asian, Turkish, Native American, European, etc. That would go very nicely with the theme. We could make the float look like a castle and hand out fliers that look like passports. Just some ideas, what do you think?

ii was going to put some of this post in a PM but i had other things to say on the subject so i'll just post a 1 fer all..
1st Dont assume i presumed you meant anything in your post. i was only giving advice and reasoning behind it..
2nd you might want to be More Amtgardesk when it comes to doing a themed parade or people will write you off as part of Tech kids just walking the paraded (thats what the flyers are for) okie but what about the people that dont get the flyers or dont want a flyer b/c your All idiots dressed up for homecoming (or whatever reason it is for the parade)
If your going to represent Amtgard great. If you can Represent Amtgard and go along with the theme of the parade AWESOME. however make sure to separate yourselves from Frat house D&D geeks to an Actual LARP/Sport..
:::disclaimer::: this is just advice take it as such and dont jump to conclusions on anything i say or you feel i say.. i'm not trying to Hurt anyones Feelings.. AS matter of fact i dont even think about peoples feelings when i write these stupid Posts im not going to Sugar coat anything this is just the Words of a mad man..

I did not mean to give you the impression I was assuming anything, I was merely pointing something out.
I beleive we can look like Amtgard and still stay within the theme. We have many people who already have/wear garb from other cultures on a regular basis. Our bellydancers are technically dressed in Turkish attire, we have many members who wear Japanese inspired attire, Barbarian clothing could be considered to be cultural as well. I was suggesting we could show off the variety of garb we have as a way of keeping with the theme and spirit of the parade.
Believe me, I do not want to be associated with the fraternity people or just another d&d group either. I also thought that if we got a float, we might be able to station some drummers and dancers in it to showcase the a&s side of Amtgard as well. (provided the float is moving slowly enough to dance
)
I am grateful for your input and suggestions, it is only with discussion, sharing of ideas and the occasional spirited debate that things are accomplished.
BTW I like your disclaimer and you have to get up pretty early in the morning to offend me or hurt my feelings. As far as I am concerned, keep the input coming

Stick around awhile, i'll wear you down little by little..
Because I'm too lazy to open that link...when is the actual homecoming parade? Dates and all..
That definetly sounds like a good plan, go and pick up those college kids, good seasonal source of new blood.
Depending on the day I might be inclined to attend (assuming I can come up with some garb.
)((and fix all my weapons XD ))
Great plan though!

The actual date of the parade is Sat October 10, 2009 starting at 10AM in Lubbock TX. The starting place is usually the downtown area. The deadline for the application is September 14 at 5PM, so we need to decide what we are going to do so I can get it filled out and turned in.

I do have to have a signed waiver for everyone who plans on participating in the parade, whether walking, fighting, or riding in the float. I have to turn in the signed waivers on Thursday September 24, so please get them to me ASAP. I am including a link to the website. Select the applications link and select parade application. The waiver is one of the last pages. Please print, sign, and return to me. If you are out of the area, scan it and email it to crying_willow@hotmail.com

*Reminder*
The parade is this Saturday. We need to be there by 9 at the absolute latest. I would like for us to get there around 7:30 -8. We will be meeting in the First Baptist Church parking lot on Broadway. (let me know if you need directions)
The weather forecast is that it will be sunny with a high of 73°, but it may be a little chilly in the morning. Please dress in garb that is either cultural, i.e. Asian, Middle Eastern, Indian, etc. (if you have it) or fighting garb.
I will sort out who will be walking and handing out flyers, fighting, riding, etc. once everyone arrives. There is limited space on the float. Please remember if you did not complete a TTU waiver, you will NOT be able to participate in the parade for liability reasons.
I will be working on putting the decorations together for the float and will decorate it on Friday after 5. If you would like to help, pm me or call. If there are any questions, please let me know.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.

thank you everyone that showed up this weekend for the parade you helped support irongate and had a lot of people asking questions maybe we will see some new faces out...we had eleven sign ins so good job i know it was cold but its well appriciated...also thank you Aryn for setting this up it was a blast and something we need to see about doing next year as well!
I just found out that our float took 3rd place in the Lubbock Area Organizations. This is great news for us because it means more publicity. I am hoping it will be posted in the Daily Toreador and Tech Announce. I will let you guys know as soon as I find out. We have a few pictures on Spotted for the AJ and we had a small spot for KAMC 28 news.
I think we can really focus on making a great float for next year to not only have fun, but get our name out there.
Thanks to all who helped and attended.

TTU Homecoming Parade
Wed like the 10 PM time slot then. And no, we will not being doing any giveaways. This is pretty much going to be a normal high school Homecoming Dance, complete with some idiot trying to spike the punch.
