Post by DoughBoy »

Ok, a few good points have been brought up about how are weapon master is appointed and how the tournament works. People have mentioned change, so lets see the populace's ideas on this subject

Here's a re-post of my suggestion:

Weaponmaster needs to be changed to be out of the line of succession (that is, not vice-Champion).
Champion replacements could be made at the discretion of the Monarch subject to Althing confirmation (this provides the needed "he/she got elected by the populace" element to this office that steps someone closer to Knight of the Crown).
These replacements would need to be able to be put to a vote at the next Althing not "put on the agenda" as a possible 60 days wait could extend past the reign the replacement is for.

I don't see why this is needed. Champion isn't an elected position either.

To explain the thought process: A replacement is given the responsibilities and benefits of office. Some check seemed necessary given the lack of Quals requirements for a replacement. Also, I see a legislative trend i our group where such significant changes demand, at least eventual, Althing approval. This is probably a good thing when we deal with Kingdom office replacements that have no order of succession (assuming my initial recommendation to remove Weaponmaster from that line will be confirmed).

Cheers.

Additionally, this method allows the Monarch to choose the 2nd place Champion tourney finisher if that is warranted but accounts for times where it is not (which for various offices elected and not I have seen occur more than once; esp. when only one person quals and puts their name into a hat for the office in question, and so yielding no 2nd-placer to choose).

I made an error on this. There is no need for a change. GP Corpora 2.9, 4.48. It reads,

"A person shall not hold more than one (1) of the following offices at any one (1) time: Monarch, Prime Minister, Regent, or Champion."

So, weapon master is granted no matter what position the winner is in.

Ok well if the P.M. has a scribe, then I think it might be a good idea to let the champian chose someone that is sort of like that. Someone who still holds battle games if the champian is not there, someone that can step up if the champian can no longer fufill his dutys no matter the reasoning behind it. Just something to think about.

Just to keep this on the front burner, simple:

Champion replacements could be made at the discretion of the Monarch subject to Althing confirmation.

These replacements would need to be able to be put to a vote at the next Althing not "put on the agenda" as a possible 60 days wait could extend past the reign the replacement is for.
