I started playing Amtgard in 2004. I was a cross-over from the SCA originally. As soon as I started I was thrust into a leadership position as a PM. I created standardized forms, maintained records, maintained finances, and was held accountable to the group for all paperwork and money.
After that I took a couple months off after having served 3 straight terms and I then became a champion. Keeping everyone playing on the field as much as possible was what my field demanded. I always had at least 6 games ready to play on any given field day. If I didn’t use all games in any given day the ones not used stayed till the next meeting. I was a safety nazi with weapons. Weapon checks were scheduled and performed as often as was needed.
After this term I became a Baron. I laid out a wonderful reign plan which my Regent and I executed and had fun with. Games ran for 6 months with themes, missions, plots, sub-quests, etc. Feasts were planned out to celebrate the reign theme and locations which would prove suitable for our many ideas were abundant. As Baron I made sure to recognize the people of my chapter when good works were done. Though I like giving out awards at the appointed court times, I also strongly believe that sometimes you have to give out awards when they happen. This creates excitement and will help boost the energy of your local group.
From there I was banished for 2 years to the land of Carlsbad, NM where no Amtgard exists. I took that time to develop and refine many of the weapon designs that I still use today. My time there was interesting and it was during this time that I first encountered the people of GP, specifically the members of Dark Oasis. They welcomed me warmly and treated me well. Even Monkey was decent to me. I was only able to travel to see them the one time but my memory of that visit is still strong an d vibrant to me.
After my 2 years of exile I returned to Cloud’s Edge where I was again pressed into immediate service, this time as a Sheriff since the chapter had shrunk. I spent the next year recruiting, teaching noobies, building good public relations, growing the next generation of leadership for the shire, and trying to instill into them a sense of family. Some of it stuck well with them, other parts faded away. After this time I again left Cloud’s Edge. The chapter has since collapsed and been re-made again.
After leaving the reach of Dragonspine, I landed in the center of the Kingdom of the Golden Plains. I had no idea at the time but I was in for a lot of fun. I first started attending Irongate in June of 2011. The people were hardy, loud, vibrant, and skilled with sticks. As I settled into being with them, I knew that I had found a home for myself. I bided my time till I could serve as a leader and I enjoyed the games, made and gave away weapons, and got to know people. When the time came I rose again to serve, this time as Duke of Irongate.
For a year I was blessed to see strength flow through the Irongate. I had the worlds greatest regent, my eternal brother Bloody Jack Flint, and our combined strengths allowed our duchy to flourish once more. During my reign we got in deep with the Lubbock community, Thanks Flint, we demonstrated amtgard to thousands of people, and we began a new stage of growth for the chapter. Teaching new people to play Amtgard is a passion of mine and IG was the place to be. During my reign things stayed mostly quiet and IG entered into a new way of being. Now as I look back where we have been since 2011 I see this chapter has become something different than it ever was. It is full of young people, families, strong veterans, brothers, sisters, and friends. My year as Duke is one that I will never forget. After my stepping down I was able to breathe for a couple of months and the vacation was nice. When the time came again though, I rose once more for the Irongate. I currently have the pleasure of serving as PM of IG. My term ends on the 11th of this month during our time of Kingdom Quals. I hope many of you are there that day to celebrate and have fun with us.
Now ever since I came to GP a new goal has been in my sights. Before because of where I lived I could never have considered becoming a squire, getting titled, or now as I follow my dream, to run for King. Thanks to GP and the way all of you decided that things should be run, I may get my chance afterall. If elected I will be travelling a lot to different parks. When I told the people of IG that a couple weeks ago, they celebrated, but I could see their sadness as well. They will continue to even rise though I won’t be there as much, and when I am not traveling I will still work my forge and maintain my membership in the Irongate.
If elected, I will immediately sit down with my Regent, Champion, and PM if available and we will work out our reign plan. I intend to have a 6 month calendar in place before I ascend to the throne. We will figure our logisitics and have locations for events planned out as soon as can be done. I also intend to have a Kingdom Nobility Meeting with the Crown members of each land, and whoever else wants to attend. It’s goal will be to drive our general organization level up. If we coordinate and cooperate we can do great things. Now I am not suggesting that we hold all of our events together, no, I like getting the different flavors of each park at their individual events. I am simply going ask each land to get their calendars set quickly so that we can all know months in advance where and when things are happening. I actually need this so that I can layout to everyone where I am going be each week. It’s always good when you know where the king is, so much easier to kill. Laugh people, you know you’d all like to stab me with daggers.
For this reign I want to take a long look at our populace. There are people in every part of GP who serve Amtgard daily and never get seen or recognized. I will find all of you, I will appreciate you, and I will award what is due. I like the awards recommendations sheets that come un but I would rather have the opportunity to see the good works of people with my own eyes.
As I finish I would like to say that I am honored and humbled by the level of support that I have received since I made my declaration of intent. The steady flow of love and support from all of you was just what I needed to stop being afraid of the job, and to realize that I have the next 6 months to shine for our Kingdom, to serve all of you, and if I’m lucky, help all of our parks continue to grow.
I submit myself to all of you the peoples of the Kingdom of the Golden Plains. I hope that you find me Worthy of Kingship and that I receive the opportunity to serve, protect, cherish and truly enjoy all of the wonderful lands of GP.
